The Strength of a Mother, 2025

I made this mini quilt to help process through my most recent (and sixth) miscarriage.

The black background represents grief. The bright pink mother represents a mother's strength -- further emphasized by how she swinging her baby into the air. The butterflies in her heart (4) and around her (2) represent my 4 chemical pregnancies and 2 missed miscarriages, and how my oldest asked if the babies went "back into my heart" after they died. The baby is rainbow because my living children are all, (or perhaps will all), be rainbow babies.

The bright rainbow is also intended to stand out brightly against the dark background since the joy of my living children is all the more bright given my grief and sorrow over my losses. The rainbow frame brings it all together and represents hope.
