Science Communication Practices

qUILTING

I also create quilts for science communication and help facilitate others in telling science stories through quilting–which is also one of my research areas.

One of my research and professional interests is science communication and quilting, including using quilts as a method of public engagement and co-creation of quilts to tell science narratives.

Public Speaking

As a trainer, I offer professional development workshops or topics from general science communication best practices, to specialty topics like trauma-informed science communication, writing for the general public and/or writing engaging non-fiction, plus workshops on biology pedagogy.

wRITING

My individual coaching and/or editing services include assistance with translating research findings into plain language in both written, spoken, or other forms of communication, how to incorporate storytelling into a research talk, building audience connection, or preparing for high-stakes talks, such as a dissertation defense, job talk, or keynote, and more! I can also assist with developing (writing or editing) grant proposals and/or overseeing science communication efforts as part of dissemination or broader impacts efforts.

I’m also a biology educator, and teach at CU Boulder and have several well-reviewed courses on Coursera.

My (past and present) clients include national labs, scientific societies, grant foundations, and research groups and people ranging from members of the public, authors, and undergraduate interns, to graduate students, professors, researchers, medical professionals, professional science communicators…and more!
