Science Communication Practice
wRITING
As a writer, I’ve written everything from public-facing blog articles to research manuscripts and a textbook! My goal with writing is to balance accessibility with technical rigor, while maintaining authenticity and a true author voice.
Readers often describe my writing as engaging, practical, and relatable, grounded in real-world examples that make challenging concepts easier to understand.
Public Speaking
As a speaker, I have spoken to a wide variety of audiences and modalities, including a TEDx Talk, keynotes to 600+ audiences, podcasts, webinars, workshops, classes, seminars, sermons, community events, and more!

qUILTING
One of my research interests involves using quilts as a method of science communication and co-creation of quilts to tell science narratives. To this end, I create quilts for science communication, such as my Look Again quilt pictured at left, and help others tell stories through science quilting. Outside of my science quilts, the majority of my quilts have a narrative focus and tell personally meaningful stories.
tEACHING And mENTORING
Currently, most of my formal teaching efforts are in online settings, including teaching for Continuing Education at the University of Colorado Boulder and my Coursera courses.
I also lead a research laboratory and have several undergraduate students working with me. I feel strongly about giving undergraduate students chances to publish their work and have served as primary advisor on several student’s undergraduate honors theses.
